Chapter 64

Hidden from the street, Terrell finally broke protocol and grabbed Dakota to kiss him. Seconds later, he pulled off his wig and set about trying to get his shirt off as fast as possible. Dakota helped, using his own shirt to wipe off some makeup and sweat. He produced a small plastic bottle of kerosene from his back pocket and splashed the contents over their disguises.

They hoped to destroy any DNA evidence. Perhaps authorities wouldn’t even directly connect the fire to the theft until long after they were gone.

With the first sparks of the fire going, the two left the empty building and closed the distance to Terrell’s bike. Dakota heard sirens in the distance, but they would have one hell of a time getting to the museum with all the disabled cars and dead traffic signals. And Terrell had one last weapon up his sleeve: the talisman Eleanor gave him.
