He still couldn’t cook except for sandwiches and frozen dinners, but Terrell loved doing it. He bought fresh produce, straight from the farmers wherever possible. No easy task in the winter. But somehow, Terrell kept their fridge stocked with veggies, fruit, and other delectable items. Eating healthy would keep them on their toes, he said, and he enjoyed seeing Dakota happy.

No one cooked for him in the years before he met Terrell and his family. Even as a kid, the amount of care and quality of ingredients left everything to be desired. He still wasn’t used to it. Whether Terrell prepared a hearty stew, pasta with tomato sauce, some rotisserie chicken, or even a simple salad, Dakota adored the whole experience.

And he tried to help out in any way he could. Maybe he couldn’t grill or sauté anything, but he became an expert at washing dishes. With a little training, he peeled carrots and potatoes without much difficulty, too.
