He didn’t want to talk to her. Ever again. From the moment they first met—when she used her talisman to throw him into the air—he hadn’t liked her. She had power over Terrell. Almost enough to get him to abandon the love of his life in favor of a quest to hunt down their mutual enemy. While he understood her motivations, the fact remained that she tried to tear them apart. And that was a crime he could never forgive. He loved Terrell more than he thought possible, and he never wanted to lose him.

But Terrell would want him to answer it. If she was in trouble, which wouldn’t surprise Dakota in the slightest, and he didn’t answer, anything that happened to her would be at least partially his fault. After a moment of hesitation, he cleared his throat, picked up the phone, and answered. “Hello?”

“Who is this?”

“Who do you think it is?”

She scoffed. “Dakota, put Terry on.”
