“The talismans pretty much negate that,” Terrell had countered.

“No, they don’t. He’s got more of them. The only real way to get at him is through his physical weaknesses. And there’s no way in hell you could go toe to toe with him like that. I’m sorry, Terrell, but it doesn’t make any sense at all. You can barely walk on bad days. How the hell are you gonna fight? You’ll just get killed. And it’ll be easy!”

He couldn’t believe he’d said that. Or what followed: “It’s like you’re just lining up to be his next victim!”

The last thing he wanted, other than to see any harm come to Kenna and Terrell, was to make him feel inadequate or weak. But Dakota couldn’t risk what might happen if he went off alone, and at the time, he thought that was more important than emotions.
