She climbed up next to him on the sofa, but she wasn’t convinced. “How can you say that?”

He reached for Kenna and rubbed the side of her head with his thumb. How could he, indeed. Dakota didn’t know what he would do without Terrell. He didn’t have a real life before they got together. And now he had to miraculously build one, out of thin air, and somehow give this child the support and care she needed. All while her brother skipped town, and essentially told them both that they weren’t worth his presence in their lives.

Never mind that Terrell apparently had zero interest in trying to mend his relationship with Dakota. Ignoring that, he was still ditching his sister, who should’ve been his primary responsibility. Not in a million years would Dakota have guessed Terrell could do that. He always seemed so compassionate and thoughtful, but this? This was reckless, coldhearted, and almost vindictive.
