Tears, unexplained to his caretaker, were streaming down the sides of his face by the time he passed out again.

He awoke, curled up in a ball and covered in a blanket in the passenger side of Dillon’s SUV. Dakota let out a groan and waited for his eyes to focus on the vehicle’s dashboard. “You took a pretty big fall back there,” the driver pointed out with a soothing voice.

“I’m sorry,” was all he managed in return.

“No need to apologize,” Dillon replied in a sweet voice. Though his vision was blurred, Dakota could see him nonchalantly navigating the streets back to the house. He didn’t seem to be bothered at all about the crisis that had just unfolded. Did he just not think it was a big deal? Or did he expect Dakota’s failure, and it simply didn’t surprise him?
