Chapter 15

“I’m fine. Just give me a moment.”

It was like Karl had hit him over the head. Deepan’s mind was whirring, and things seemed to be moving like they were underwater. It was a weird sensation. Deepan hated floundering.

“Deepan?” Karl stood before Deepan, folding his arms with a deeper frown. “Did you and Zafar have something going on that I should know about?”

“Will this make me a suspect if I tell you?”

“That depends on what you have to say.”

Deepan licked his lips. He wasn’t ashamed, but this was Karl he was talking to. He was now beginning to feel about two inches tall as Karl glared at him.

“Zafar and I…we were close for a brief moment in time.”

“What does that mean?”

“We…” Deepan closed his eyes and let out a heavy sigh. “We had a fling in our senior year.”

Karl didn’t respond. Deepan opened his eyes to see Karl staring at him in bewilderment. It almost made Deepan smile. Having Karl on the back foot wasn’t something he had witnessed very often.
