Chapter 29

“Not in there, wolf.” Arius shook his head. “Not yet.”

“But I think…” Lyle’s speech faded and he cast through his thoughts for what exactly he was about to say. He wasn’t sure. That someone was in there? Something? Whatever it was, Lyle couldn’t shake the idea that it shouldn’t be there…that it didn’t belong…The scent hardly existed, Lyle knew that on a conscious level. But it was pulling at him so hard that Lyle sensed it as though they were walking through an entire cloud of it.

“Don’tthink.” Arius tugged Lyle away and put an arm around Lyle’s shoulders. He began to walk again. “I like you reacting far more than I like you thinking. It’s been a long time since I was surprised into finding myself on my back, wolf. That was a pretty good show of dexterity and response back there on the bed. Have you been trained to fight?”

Lyle laughed. “I wish. The only thing I’ve been trained to do is be a good boy and keep my nose clean.”

“And you don’t approve.”
