There was nothing to hold the curtain back with. If Lyle let it go, he’d be left standing in, at best, nothing more than filtered lighting. At worst, and the assumption Lyle was more likely to believe, the moment the drape fell into place, it would block out all the lighting, and he’d be left standing in complete blackness. The dark didn’t bother him in the least; the rodents would leave him alone, and a spider was easy enough to brush off if it dared to wander from web to hand. But for some reason, Lyle was sure that whatever he might be looking for wasn’t going to jump out at him or holler, over here, dumb ass!
