Chapter 32

“No,” Andrewe whispered. “I would, in all honesty, only need one.”

The statement shouldn’t have made Emmett suck back a sharp breath and want to get on his knees to thank every God he could recall by name. But it did.

Andrewe squeezed Emmett’s hand. “That I did for the man I was in love with. The man I am still in love with.”

Emmett’s heart yearned to reach out and cling to the man who spoke such beautiful words. His soul however, remembered truth too strong to ignore. He shook his head and sighed heavily. “You do not allow someone you love to come to harm, your Highness. I may be a simple man but that is a fact that I know. So tell me then, if your love is true, why do you allow me to be harmed, Andrewe? Why do you call it on me yourself?”
