Ness flinched. “I found him poking around and stopped to send him on his way. He saw ye’r light,” he pointed out, jabbing a finger toward the homestead.

The imposing creature stood before him, anger simmering in unnatural colored eyes. “I sawyou, Ness.”

The meaning of the statement was clear, did he explain why he kissed the human or let it go and take whatever tongue lashing he was on the verge of receiving? “I admit, aye, I kissed him. My reason was…sound. There’s something off about him. There has to be a trace of one of our kind running through his blood, it’s the sole explanation.”

“Our kind don’t mate with humans.”
