Chapter 15

Then, it happened.

The creature appeared out of the murky surroundings, a being the likes of which he’d never seen before, green with yellowed eyes and a long neck, a mouth full of sharp little teeth. Every time it grabbed him by the collar and dragged him back up, moving effortlessly through the trashing waves until they reached the shore. Rocks and pebbles bit at his flesh, the choppy waters kicking at his ankles as though unwilling to give up its prize, and then, just as he turned to give the creature his full attention, he succumbed to exhaustion, passing out.13
