Chapter 21

“I hope he’s waiting for me,” Keston mumbled, the scenery going from cities to small towns to farm fields and untouched beauty. “I hope I read his intentions right. Or I suppose I could drive further north and cross the border and leave this all behind.”

Keston realized he could be making a huge mistake.

Nobody, outside of friends and family, had ever loved him before.

Dusk had swept across the sky by the time he made it to the woods. Turning down the narrow two-lane road, Keston wondered how best to go about getting hold of Ness. As far as he knew the guy didn’t have a phone, especially if he stayed in a cabin on the island in the middle of Kona Lake. There weren’t any lines going out that way and he couldn’t recall having ever seen a tower. Something told him that a number of the visitors and perhaps the more permanent inhabitants of Kona preferred to be unconnected with the outside world.
