In the wake of several near-cataclysmic events, humanity created the Cure, a DNA-altering antidote to death by disease and old age. But all cures come with side effects: a small percentage of the population develops a wide range of powers, some lethal to others and some lethal to the wielder.<br><br>These people are called the Estranged, hunted and shunned, safe only on the Island of Exile. It is here that Kaeva and Eddie meet ... and where they set a prophecy in motion, quite possibly sealing their own demise, and even the end of Exile.

“I’ll have to tell you about it later,” Eddie said. “The Power Rider, I mean. Sometime when Mr. Big and Scary isn’t breathing over both our shoulders.”


Mecken’s eyes flicked up and over to assess Kaeva, whom Eddie assumed was damn near oozing with impatience and irritation. “Aw, he’s all right,” Mecken said softly. “Just leave him alone and give him time to settle. He’ll work it out. That’s his way.” He nodded at Kaeva. “You can return the ATV tomorrow when you come back into town. And don’tblow it up!” The rush of air Mecken kicked up in his departure was strong enough to ruffle their hair.


Eddie nodded at the machine. “I think you’ll have to drive. Unless you want to teach me how to work it, of course. Whichever.”
