In the wake of several near-cataclysmic events, humanity created the Cure, a DNA-altering antidote to death by disease and old age. But all cures come with side effects: a small percentage of the population develops a wide range of powers, some lethal to others and some lethal to the wielder.<br><br>These people are called the Estranged, hunted and shunned, safe only on the Island of Exile. “Yes,” Oberon said, not moving from where he stood.


Kaeva sighed. He almost apologized for the day before but thought better of it. What was done was done. Besides, he wasn’t sorry in the least. “Is it possible to keep the crowd to a minimum? Or close this one to spectators?”


“Our guest of honor has a stage fright problem which leads to a urination issue. I’ve heard more about it than anybody should.”


Oberon’s beard twitched in amusement. “I’ll keep the numbers contained, though several non-Council citizens will be in attendance.”


Without asking, Kaeva knew that would be Shin, the head of Patrol, along with Mithra from Island Defense, Zunella from the Med Center, and other islanders who would need to know Eddie’s face and take a guess at Eddie’s motives. It wasn’t just curiosity: Eddie was being judged. Could he be trusted?
