Chapter 67

“What’s wrong with me?” Eddie stared Shin in the eyes and bristled when Shin snorted a laugh.

“Take him to Marykeen,” Shin told Mecken. “She’ll have something more his style.”

Patrol was not something Eddie wanted to do. Not in the least. He had no misconceptions on his ability to fight, and he had not a single power-hungry bone in his body. The badge (nothing more than an embroidered shield with the word PATROL emblazoned in red) that had been stitched onto the tunics of the people in attendance did not make Eddie weak in the knees with bloodlust. On the contrary, it reminded him how much he disliked most of the self-important hard-asses who usually wore them. The concept that somebody on this island thought he was as useless as Eddie believed himself to be was all kinds of annoying, though.
