He’d sat at the kitchen table for hours, watching without hope for Kaeva to come back. His cynicism hadn’t let him down. When he finally heard the approach of the ATV that would take him into town for his last shift before the Council meeting, Eddie simply shrugged, slid the chair away from the table, and stood. So they wouldn’t get a chance to make up before he left; oh, well. He dumped the remainder of the tea into the sink and watched it slide down the slick surface into the drain. He couldn’t very well blame Kaeva for the anger. If walking away in a huff made Kaeva feel better, than goddamn it, that’s what Kaeva should do. Whatever. There were enough people around to judge Kaeva. He wasn’t about to start doing it too. Besides, Kaeva hadn’t had months to get used to the idea of Eddie being gone. Kaeva hadn’t even had the opportunity to get used to Eddie being there, let alone anything else. And Kaeva didn’t know what it was like in Eddie’s head, did he?
