“Look, I asked you here tonight because I wanted to find out if there was a possibility for more between us. If you could develop feelings for me, as I have for you.” Sol made to move, but I tightened my arms, and he relaxed again. “There is no pressure. You understand? You don’t have to get involved in a relationship with me if that’s not what you want. But you’re carrying our children, and I want to help you raise them. I want us to do this together. None of this is what I expected. But it’s not unwanted, all right?”


Sol didn’t say anything for a long time. Eventually nuzzled into my neck. When he spoke, his breath puffed against my skin. “I am confused, Brody. I do not know what to think.”


At least it wasn’t a “no.” “That’s okay. Take your time. But I’d like it if you wouldn’t leave, so we can figure it out. At the very least, our children should have two parents, right?”
