Chapter 28

“Thank you though,” Mason went back to playing with the yolk, his interest in actually putting the goo in his mouth fading. “I appreciate what you’re saying.” He smirked at the word. “See? I can appreciate things.”

He watched Jack layer egg over top of ham, consider for a moment, and then steal a piece of Mason’s toast with a wink. “And see? I can actually eat bread.”

Mason tilted his head and narrowed his eyes. “Did you just say that to make what I said sound ridiculous?”

“One will never know.” Jack dropped the toast on top of the pile on his plate, stuck his fork under it and flipped the whole mess upside down, chuckling at Mason’s questioning expression. “Toast must be on the bottom.”

“Speaking of—”

Jack looked up with a cartoonish grin. “Bottoming?”

“Saying things that should be said…” Mason corrected, pausing to wait for Jack to stop leering. “Thank you. For last night. And the date and what not. I had a good time and I’m glad you came with me.”
