Chapter 9

When they were both ready, Sombra led them out. They encountered no one in the dimly lit halls. This part of the vast rambling house was clearly far from the public area where the party continued. Ren soon found himself outside in the cooling late night air. He clasped Sombra’s hand briefly. “I should be back in an hour unless I run into trouble.”

“If you do, send me a mental signal, a telepathic SOS. I’ll do what I can to help. We’re partners now, are we not?”

“Ah, yes. So we are.” Ren released the other man’s hand and faded into the pre-dawn darkness. Impatient to get this new effort underway he decided to teleport and in an instant reappeared in his hotel room. It took only a few minutes to gather his personal items and stuff them into a small suitcase. Then he changed into a pair of simple slacks and a loose jacket, garments in a unisex style. Still wearing the long red wig, he went down to the lobby to check out.
