Chapter 23

“Shit,” Jonah says, sighing.

Willa is silent, peach-colored with wide eyes. Her mouth is completely open.

Sandy stands, takes control of Pam’s post-moment, and says to Jonah, “Hey, let’s get out of here for a few minutes. Why don’t we get our coats and go for a walk?”

“Yeah. Okay,” Jonah mumbles, bemused, pale-faced, and having tears at the edge of his eyes. “Let’s do that if you think it’s the right thing to do.”

The word Eskimo stems from the Algonquin tribe of people. Their language is often called Inuktitut, an Aleut language. Being a migratory people, they inhabit the Arctic and Bering Sea regions. Having formed cooperatives to market their handicrafts, fish catches, and tourism ventures, they also resort to making money by carving sculptures, through dance, writing literature, and through music.
