Chapter 59

“Have you and Sam set a date?” I asked as I speared a chunk of guava.

Sam grinned at me and spoke before Dinah could say a word. “We’re getting married just as soon as she gets a raise and can keep me in the style to which I plan to become accustomed.”

“Ass,” Leo muttered.

“You really plan to let Dinah support you?”

“Sure, why not?”

“Who’ll take care of the children?”

“What children?” Sam asked blankly.

“Sam?” Dinah raised an eyebrow, a habit I remembered from our time together, and it didn’t usually bode well.

“Oh. Oh, those children. We’ll hire someone to handle all that stuff.”

“My mother stayed at home and took care of me and my brothers, while Father attended to matters in the royal household.”

“Really? Your father knew the king?” Leo seemed bedazzled.

“Of course he did.” Sam said loftily. “He’s a baronet.” He spoiled it by adding in a petulant tone, “An earl or a marquis would have been better.”
