“We’ll never get another job.”
“We’ll never need to.” Pablo sneered at him, something he always did, just because Aemiliano was smaller than him. “Dr. Avila will never find out what I have done.” His sneer turned to a hardened glare. “I warn you, amigo. If you ever speak of this to anyone, I will cut your throat and pull your tongue out through the opening.”
Aemiliano shivered. Although Dr. Avila had placed him in charge, he deferred as always to his larger, stronger-willed friend. He was very uneasy, however. Since they had discovered that…monster…Pablo had been acting more and more unlike himself.
“It was just bad luck that Dr. Avila found me with the paw and took it with him.” Pablo scowled. “That foolish old man actually believed me when I gave that cock and bull excuse of hacking it off because I believed it was a demon.”
“If it wasn’t a demon, then what was it?”
“Who knows? Who cares? The important thing is it will bring me much money.”
