Chapter 38

As soon as they came upon the edge of the Core, Blaise broke into a swift trot that quickly became a gallop as they approached the tunnels that would lead them to the generators. Stella hung onto his waist as the walls blurred around them. The sound of Blaise’s hooves on metal echoed strangely, drowning out everything else.

This time, Rory was paying attention when Blaise slowed and stopped at the sealed doors leading to the generators. They were thick, far more durable than the docking bay doors through which Blaise had kicked her way without any trouble. These doors were massive, with tiny blue lights inset all around the outside so the surface of the doors were lit up. There was inlaid script set into the metal that he couldn’t read.

“What is this, Blaise?” he asked, watching as she touched her nose to a spot on one door. Her eyes glowed for a moment, blue like the lights, before the door unfurled, melting away from the center outwards.
