Ardin glared up at him. Dryath had no problem with implants as a rule, but Ardin had replaced both eyes with enhanced models and the little red dots in the middle could be disconcerting. He could have shelled out the extra coin to buy eyes that looked natural, but that wasn’t Ardin’s style. “How much do you know about the abolition movement, Riatt?”

Dryath clasped his hands behind him. “Not much, sir. I’ve always figured whether or not people keep slaves is their own business.” That wasn’t the whole of it, of course. Dryath, like most people, had feelings about slaveowners. He wouldn’t date one. He wouldn’t socialize with anyone he knew owned slaves, although he generally kept his feelings to himself. “The law is the law, and people that want to own slaves have their rights. We’re here to enforce laws, not moralize.”
