Once Upon a Star

He thought he would have to wait for quite a while for Zeke to return from the hospital, but he was wrong. His parents had driven away approximately twenty minutes ago, and now he heard the sound of Zeke’s car pulling into the garage. He shut off the lights in a hurry and waited impatiently for Zeke to enter the house through the connecting door. He was beyond excited when he heard the connecting door open.


Sterling switched on the lights, startling Zeke into silence. He watched as Zeke took in the sights of all the balloons, then the flower petals strewn all over the floor, beginning from the connecting door all the way to the dining area. Sterling picked up the rather heavy bouquet of red roses from the dining table and walked toward Zeke, still gaping at him.


When he finally stood in front of Zeke, he presented the roses to him. “One hundred stalks of red roses for my lovely and amazing boyfriend.”
