“I did the same thing, and I’m glad you turned up. I don’t know any of these people.”
But they’re dying to know you, Parrish thought. He searched for an innocuous subject. “What are your plans for Thanksgiving?”
“I’ll be leaving the office in van Heusen’s capable hands while I fly out to the West Coast.”
“Business?” Parrish knew Mr. van Heusen was one of the top senior executives. When he’d still been Mrs. Campbell’s assistant, he’d been sent to Mr. van Heusen’s office a number of times, and the man had always treated him decently, unlike one of the other executives who made Parrish very uncomfortable.
“I do have a life outside the company,” Mr. Burke said dryly.
Parrish ducked his head. It was a good thing he didn’t tend to blush; otherwise he’d have gone around with his cheeks a constant shade of red.
“In this case, however, you’re right. Although once the business end of things has been taken care of, I’ll make an extended vacation of it.”
