“Parrish, these bears are perfect.” Felicia sniffled, and Philip went to her and dried her cheeks. She hugged the bears. One wore a pink Onesie and had pink ribbons fastened to its ears, while the other wore the uniform of the Charlotte Hornets.
“I’m pleased you like them. I’m sorry I didn’t get more gender neutral outfits, though.”
“These are lovely. And who knows? Archer may prefer the bear in pink, while Clio might want the one in the Hornets’ uniform.”
“That’s so kind of you to say.” The hostile glances he kept getting made him uncomfortable. “I think I’d better go, now. Thank you for the soda.” He set the glass down on a coaster on the end table.
“Oh, no!”
“I’m sorry, I promised to meet friends for dinner.”
“Well, if you have to go…Thank you again, Parrish. Everything is perfect. You’ll come to see Clio and Archer after they’re born, won’t you?”
“I’d love to. Thank you.”
“I’ll be going also, Felicia,” Mr. Burke said.
