Jah’lar’s response, calculated to annoy Nick further, Nick was sure, was simply the curling up of one corner of his mouth and a slight shake of his head.


Adam scrambled out after Nick, standing a few inches behind him. At least with Nick around, restrained or not, the number of times Adam got hit had significantly decreased.


Raleigh snorted and turned away, leaning in and saying to Jah’lar,


“Make sure he doesn’t see or know about that one.” He jerked his thumb over his shoulder at Nick.
