“I need to go check on Wade,” he said. More like rescue.

Patricia wished him luck before she made her way to Allyson. They’d seemed to become fast friends.

The look of relief on Wade’s face when he saw Lance heading his way was comical.

“Hey, honey,” Lance said, grabbing Wade’s hand. “Casey needs to see you in the kitchen.” Playing it up a little, he raised their joined hands and kissed his knuckles.

Wade’s eyes widened and an adorable blush covered his cheeks. “Oh…umm, okay.” He looked at Fran. “It was nice seeing you again,” he said and let Lance tug him through the room and into the kitchen.

“You okay?” Lance asked, laughing.

“God, that woman can talk!” He glanced around. “Where’s Casey? What did he need to talk to me about?”

Lance noticed Wade hadn’t pulled away his hand. “I made it up.”

“That’s perfect—”

“Wade!” Casey hollered at them from the mudroom. He looked upset. “I need you in the barn.” He headed out the back door, pushing it hard.
