The house was finally quiet. Allyson and Casey had gone to bed over an hour ago, Landon was hanging out watching a movie with Jake, and Ash had left with Patricia to take her to the airport.

Lance wasn’t sure when darkness had arrived, but it felt like hours ago. All he wanted was a hot shower and bed, but he needed to finish unpacking a few more boxes in the bedroom. He’d left Wade downstairs talking with Lorna about twenty minutes earlier and was setting up his phone charger on the empty nightstand when he heard the door open and he jumped.

“Whoa, sorry,” Wade exclaimed, stepping back. For a second, Wade looked confused, like he couldn’t figure out why Lance was in his room.

Lance held up his left hand, his new wedding band glittering under the light. “Husband, remember?”

Wade chucked. “Yeah. Wow. I think my brain might be fried.”

“Yeah, mine, too.”
