Chapter 14

He looked up at Anya. “What kind of work?”

She rolled her eyes. “Lifeguarding work. Obviously.”

“I’m not a lifeguard,” Rob protested. “I haven’t got any training or…whatever you need.”

“Here’s your training,” Anya said. “If you see a drowning person, save them. Have you got that down, or do you need me to go over the finer details once more?”

“Maybe you should,” Rob deadpanned. “That was far too many details to throw at me all at once.”

Anya grinned. “I have faith in your skills. Let’s go.” She left the room without further conversation.

Rob left his tablet on the bed. He pulled on a pair of board shorts and one of the Driftwood Beach Patrol tank tops that had somehow wound up in his dresser. He headed downstairs where Anya was waiting by the front door. Wordlessly, she opened the door and headed down the steps to the beach. Rob followed, making sure to close and lock the front door behind him.
