Chapter 15

Anya smiled. “It’s stronger when you reciprocate that want.”

Rob thought back on the last few of his more recent romantic encounters. “Yeah,” he mused. “It is. It’s stronger, easier.”

“It feels better.” Anya’s words are a statement, not a question. “And we crave it, to an extent.”

Rob wrinkled his nose. “Do we, like…need it to survive?”

“No,” Anya smirked. “It’s not like food or water. Or shifting, for that matter. It’s something we want,not something we need.”

She nodded towards the beach where Kayla sat with the women. Their phones were out as they appeared to be exchanging contact information. Kayla gestured towards the house, and said something that made the women laugh.

“Kayla’s planning a party,” Anya said. “Tomorrow night. First one of the summer. You’ll see.” Her eyes narrowed. “Just be careful. Don’t go overboard.”

“I won’t,” Rob said, before he realized that he had no idea what she meant.
