Chapter 32

“We’ve got a visitor,” he said tersely. He grabbed a banana from the fruit bowl on the counter and dropped into a kitchen chair with a scowl. Kayla and Aaron sat at the table, Kayla on her tablet and Aaron scratching out notes on a pad of paper. Anya leaned against the counter, arms folded and expression blank. Rob went to stand by Anya. He picked up a clementine and turned it around in his hands, studying it with interest.

“We do?” Kayla didn’t look up from the tablet. “Who is it?”

“It’s me.”

The clementine nearly dropped from Rob’s grasp. He turned towards the new voice. A tall, wiry woman leaned against the kitchen doorway. Thick honey-blonde hair hung over one shoulder and flowed down to her waist. Deep blue eyes shone brightly as they looked lazily around the room.

“Astrid!” Kayla hopped up from her chair and ran to embrace the blonde. The haughty expression on her face relaxed into a genuine smile.
