“I had to replace all the glass, and one of the legs needed a repair to keep it steady, but it was a small price to pay.” His hand dropped to slide down the hinges. “Rev thinks I’m ridiculous, but I like thinking about all the stories that each thing has. All the moments they’ve been witness to. I find it very…grounding.”

Gage couldn’t take his eyes from Christopher’s fingers. He stared at them, wishing Christopher would touch him the way he touched the wood. “I don’t think it’s ridiculous. I think it’s all very interesting. I like hearing what you know.”

Christopher stood close enough for his low chuckle to vibrate through Gage’s flesh. “That’s probably why I like you so much. You don’t make me feel like that teacher from Ferris Bueller who just drones on and on and on.”
