Chapter 42

“When I found out about you and Bodie.” He refused to refer to the kiss and make this harder than it was. “I thought you’d rather have the privacy.”

Gage grinned, but Christopher was becoming something of an expert on Gage’s smiles and this one seemed forced. “I had six brothers and grew up in three bedroom house. I didn’t even know privacy existed until I moved to California.”

“Six? Are the other four older than you? I haven’t heard you talk about them.”

“That’s because I’m not really that close to them. Brett’s only twenty-six, but Joseph, Bowden, and Chad are all over ten years older. I think after Brett was born, Mom just kept trying for a girl.”

The elevator doors slid open, and they stepped into the empty car. Nobody came on after them, leaving Christopher all too aware of Gage standing so close next to him. “Well, if it makes you feel any better, I’ll take the bigger room.”

“That’s awfully nice of you. What floor?”

“Five.”
