Chapter 41

“Punctual as always,” Gage greeted cheerfully as he pulled the back door open. He slid the guitar case in first and perched his bag on top of it, then joined Christopher in the front. “Come on, smile. We’re going on a road trip.”

In spite of his earlier trepidation, Gage’s smile melted his mood, like it always did. He shook his head in mock reproof, and pulled out into traffic.

“Only you would find Sacramento exciting,” he said. “And what’s with the guitar? You planning on playing for tips at the sale?”

“I don’t go anywhere without her, and I figured I’ll have downtime at some point. Plus, I could serenade you, if you liked.”

“Not while I’m driving. We’ll never get there.” He finally smiled at the thought of a serenade. “I wouldn’t mind a personal concert tonight, though. Your show is definitely better than anything on the hotel’s Pay-Per-View.”

“I’ll play any time you want. So, does the estate sale start today or tomorrow?”
