Shooting a quick greeting at Rosemary, Christopher dropped a careful hand to the small of Gage’s back, angling his body to give them a shade more privacy from the rest of the room. “I didn’t know you were planning on going out tonight.” He deliberately avoided the use of the word alone. He didn’t need Gage to reject him in person, even if he looked at Christopher with such enthusiasm at the moment.

The smile faltered but didn’t completely disappear. “I needed to get out. I get claustrophobic in that room. What are you doing here? Did you come in for a drink?”

“This place always makes me think of you.” Which was both true, and sidestepped the question of his obvious arrival. Hopefully.

Gage leaned so far forward he would have tumbled off the stool if Christopher hadn’t grabbed his shoulder. “You’re thinking about me?”
