Chapter 47

“What, always like this?”

“Hmm? Oh, yes. This was Granddad’s room when he was a boy, and when I was old enough to understand, I was so proud he’d let me have it I wouldn’t let anyone change a thing.”

“It’s very adult for a five-year-old. Where did you stay before then?”

I shook my head. “That was when Granddad insisted I stay with him for a time.” He’d been to the manor for Geoff’s birthday and had seen Sir cut me to ribbons with his words after I’d spilled my chocolate milk all over the white outfit I’d had to wear. “Why, Kipp?” Hyde placed my laptop beside the nightstand. “I don’t want to upset you, but it’s obvious that Marcus—that you’re not his favorite.”
