All the color drained from his face. “Kipp?”

Then Hyde came in, and I forgot everything.

“Hyde!” I bounded out of the chair, crossed the floor, and threw myself into his arms before I even realized what I was going to do.

“It makes me very happy to be welcomed this way.” He ran his fingers over my hair, smoothing it down. “I’m sorry I wasn’t here, blue eyes.”

I brought his head down to mine. “Granddad’s not doing well,” I whispered. “They don’t think he’ll make it through the night.”

He looked at Granddad, and then tightened his hold on me. “I want you to meet someone.” He turned toward the door just as the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen walked in.
