The men shook hands, and Michael seemed to be sizing Hunter up. “Beaumont, huh? So you’re one of the original family?”

“The last one, actually.” Hunter grinned. “And something tells me there won’t be any more.”

“Why is that?”

Hunter sighed, not sure if he was ready to come out to his neighbor…especially in a place like rural Wisconsin. But at this point, he didn’t care. If it kept Michael Burt away, that would be just fine by Hunter. “Lifestyle choices, as they say.” Hunter paused. “Know what I mean?”

It seemed there was a brief twinkle in Michael’s blue eyes, and his face lit up with another smile. “I know exactly what you mean.”

“Really?”

“Yeah…what are the odds? Two homos ending up out here?” He took a step closer to Hunter. “I couldn’t be happier to hear this news, Hunter.”

Hunter stepped back. “Well, Michael, as I said, I do appreciate your stopping over. I have a lot of work to do inside…” He eyed the open door.
