Chapter 55

“Here. You seem upset. Why don’t you sit down?” Michael patted the couch next to him.

“I don’t want to sit down!” Hunter was surprised at the shrillness of his own voice.

Michael stared down at the floor, appearing to be at a total loss. For a moment Hunter was filled with uncertainty. Then he thought about how Michael Burt could very well be an excellent actor and that the confusion and concern he was displaying could be just another role. Right now he stared at Hunter, his expression open, obviously waiting for him to make the next move. Hunter shook his head.

“Come on, Michael. Why don’t you save us both a lot of time and just admit what you’ve been doing? You might be surprised at how easily we can get things cleared up.”

Michael lit a cigarette and blew a plume of smoke toward the ceiling. “I’m really sorry, Hunter, but I don’t even have the slightest clue as to what you’re talking about.”
