Chapter 67

Michael hugged him quickly and let him go. Was he putting too much of a burden on his neighbor?

“You want some tea? Or I have some brandy.”

“Just hold me.” And they were quiet for a while. Hunter felt safe in Michael’s arms. But then slowly he felt the rage and violation begin to build inside him, overpowering the fear.

Damn it! This thing must have boundaries…and it wants me out. But it’s my home. Mine. I can’t let it win. I have to fight back.Maybe in the past, that was the problem. None of his family had ever fought back; they’d been too frightened. Hunter couldn’t blame them. But if he wanted to keep what was rightfully his, he knew he might have to wage war to get it. He watched as Michael got up and poured each of them a brandy. He returned and handed one to Hunter.

“Drink this. It’ll help.”

He took a big swallow. The burning felt good.
