“You said you didn’t want to discuss it now. That’s what I’m doing. Not discussing it.” Hunter pulled on his boots and crammed his knit cap down on his head. He opened the door and felt Michael behind him, his hand on Hunter’s shoulder.

“Now, don’t go away like this. I’m just concerned about you. As a favor to me, so I won’t worry, would you at least spend the night here? I promise I have no ulterior motives other than taking care of a friend.”

Hunter looked at him. To himself he admitted he was tempted. To himself he admitted there was some disappointment in hearing the man had no ulterior motives.

“Look. You’re upset. You’ll have a clearer head in the morning. Too much has gone on.”

“No shit…including someone just inferring that I’ve lost my mind.”

“Oh, come on. I wasn’t saying that.”

“It sure sounded like it to me.”
