Chapter 70

“My job. If I don’t do it, things can get lost.”

Hunter slid into his coat. “You know, maybe I’ll just pay this Mr. Burt a visit right now.”

“Good idea. Let me know how it comes out.”

“Sure, Mr. Waggle. And thanks so much for all your help.”

Hunter left the library.

Hunter had to watch his speed on the icy road that headed out of town. He gritted his teeth and hung tightly onto the steering wheel. He was furious.

“Why?” He slapped the steering wheel. “Why wouldn’t he tell me?”

He passed his own driveway and continued the few hundred feet that would take him to Michael’s. As he made his way up the drive, he thought Michael had better have a damn good reason for leaving out what Hunter thought was critical information.

When Michael opened the door, he smiled. He looked genuinely happy to see Hunter. The smile quickly vanished when, Hunter assumed, Michael read the anger in his face.

Hunter brushed by him and went inside. He turned to Michael. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
