Chapter 79

“So, really, to what do I owe the honor?”

Hunter smeared some wet snow around with the toe of his boot. “Well, that dinner you made for me was so good, I thought maybe I could con you into a little breakfast.” Hunter smiled.

“Already had it. Us working folks get up early. But tell you what…I’ll be making lunch in about an hour and a half. Why don’t you come back then?”

“Nope. Only interested in breakfast. Your loss.”

Michael stared at Hunter with disbelief. “What has gotten into you? What did you do with my old next-door neighbor? And…who are you?”

Hunter grinned. “Someone who’s free…finally.”

“Oh?”

“I have some good news.” Hunter didn’t say anything more.

“Well, maybe if I invite you in for some tea, you’ll deign to share it with me.”

“That depends.”

“On what?”

“What kind of tea. And if the tea comes with a side of scrambled eggs.”

Michael made a tsksound, but he smiled. “I have some Earl Grey. And I suppose I could manage a plate of eggs.”
