It had sounded so cold to say it like that, but without telling the woman about the flare, there were no other reassurances she could offer. Yaliana probably disliked her a lot at this point, and would probably continue to do so. After all, who could like someone who refused to take them to safety when they had the means? Of course, Yaliana didn’t know the true extent of Ulissa’s ability to get help, but if she found out, she’d probably hate Ulissa for hiding it.

“Maybe I can set off myself towards our compound, and you can continue on to the next one?” Yaliana said.

“I can’t,” Ulissa said, clenching her fists with emotion. “I’m sorry, but I can’t let you go. You might lead them to me. In fact, your oath dictates that you mustlead them to me.”

“What if I leave you anyway?” Yaliana shot back.

“I’m not stopping you, but you’ll probably end up getting attacked by a monster. I’ve studied the animals that live in this jungle. You haven’t.”
