As Yaliana handed her a heated ration pack, Ulissa was reminded of her feelings again. She’d been trying to suppress them this whole trip, because she was escaping from this world. She didn’t have time for things like infatuations with knights she would be leaving behind. The stars called for her, and a knight that had sworn allegiance to her father had no place by her side.
“What are you thinking about?” Yaliana asked before taking a bite of her rations.
“How we can get out of here without weapons or armour, or my map.”
“We need to be rescued.”
“But my father…”
“We can think of that later,” Yaliana said. “I agree, you shouldn’t be made to marry against your will. But first we have to survive.”
“What are you thinking of doing then?”
“Signals. We can create somethingthat can be seen from a long way off, and perhaps we can get the attention of rescuers.”
“We don’t have anything to make signals.”
“Just watch me.”
