Chapter 17

Trevor cleared his throat. Still no response. Finally he swallowed the amphibian family that had taken up residence in his neck and said, “Um.”

Eloquent.

“Did I take the joke too far?” He peeked over.

Chase’s normally pale cheeks were as bright as the stoplight they were approaching. At least he didn’t look upset. Just a touch embarrassed. And staring straight ahead in a way that Trevor could relate to.

“We can just rewind this conversation to, uh, me apologizing and saying you don’t need rescued,” Trevor offered, even though, now that he’d voiced the big question, he burned to know the answer.

“Sure,” Chase said, voice squeaking.
