Chapter 29

Chase elbowed Mike. “Hey, class is over.”

Mike’s head jerked up, he glanced around, then he quickly closed out of the game. “Thanks. God,” he groaned. “I’m not sure I can take it if she goes over the syllabus one more fucking time.”

“I know, right?” Chase said, quieter than Mike had, not wanting Whitstein to hear. “Do you think that maybe we have a paper due before the holidays?”

Mike chortled as they both stood and picked up their bags. “Is there a paper due? I couldn’t have guessed. If only I were reminded sometime…”

“Ugh. I can’t believe we still have to write papers. Like, I get it. Formal papers don’t just vanish once you’re in the real world. But this is not why I’m taking this major.”

Mike shrugged. “I don’t mind them. They’re easy to BS and you can do all sorts of prep to make them perfect if you want. Unlike tests.”

“I think for tests it’s called ‘studying,’” Chase pointed out.

“Heretic. Where you headed?”
